Origins

Ancient Hungarians, or Magyars, were a nomadic people of the Eurasian steppes. There are lots of theories on the origins of the Magyars but it is thought that they first lived in a place called Magna Hungaria in the Urals.

Pushed westward by the waves of migrating nomadic tribes behind them, they moved into an area called Levedia in the mid 8th century. There they stayed until the mid 9th century when they moved to an area called the Eltelköz. Shortly thereafter, the Maygar's moved into the Carpathian basin under the leadership of Arpád. To give you a better picture of the movement of these horse bowman, here is an excellent map.
