Shoes

There has not been a recovery of any whole or partial extant examples of Conquest Era shoes to date. However, boot mounts are a very common ornamental item found in female magyar graves. The position in the grave of these metal mounts allows archaelogists to theorize on the material, construction and shape of period footwear.

Cinnamon=colored felt bootsThe wool boots at right were felted from cinnamon-colored merino roving in the spring of 2003 and will eventually be decorated with various metal findings, such as nailheads and filigree plaques. It is possible that the ancient hungarians wore shoes similar to these.
